Aaeolid is the fancy name for a sea slug.. These are generally far more beautiful than the slugs in your garden. The one shown here, Facelina auricula feeding on the marine plant/animal Tubularia indivisa, was recently photographed at Ballymacaw by a local diver, Jamie Malone, who is rapidly being recognised as the the marine equal of Ireland's best known photographer of terristrial wildlife, Mike Brown, who does much of his work in Waterford. Further information on the work of Jamie Malone may be seen on www.divewaterford.com. or contact him direct to acces his own gallery at malonejamie@hotmail.com

Bizarre! There is a certain lady named Mary who loves slugs so much that she and her brother feeds them every night. He takes pictures of them!! The slugs shown here are Deroceras reticulatum (Muller 1774) (a common species). The good news is that these are just 40 miles from Waterford AND just outside Waterford City and County! I am informed that they will not eat Italian food like Spaghetti!!! |

I regret that this site and associated e-mail have been offline for the past three weeks, compliments of the very insecure American domain-name supplier who insisted on having a noterised letter of indemnity stating that these would not be used to incite people to attack America! Netted in Waterford City this
morning for ringing purposes, this female Goldfinch was already
ringed with a closed ring used by illegal trappers. These rings are used
on young wild birds when in the nest so that when 'harvested' for cages,
they can claim that it was bred in captivity.
